MICHAEL STANWOOD in Performance

Find Michael performing in a variety of settings and musical groupings:

SOLO

"The lasting impression of Stanwood is one of integrity. He is a man who believes intensely in what he is doing, and he does it with deep commitment...Indeed this was a fun evening in the highest sense of the word. Above all, it made music what it should be, a collective experience." Boulder Daily Camera

DUO with Dexter Payne

Michael's natural sense of humor and beauty is augmented by nationally recognized blower of horns, Dexter Payne. A mysteriously irrepressible feeling of joy overtakes listeners of all ages when they embark on a musical excursion with this dynamic duo!

"We always feel extra lucky when we can book Michael Stanwood and Dexter Payne into our family theater series. They have an uncanny ability to connect with children and adults in a concert setting and everybody has a great good time! Michael's incredible way with a song takes children's music to a brand new level of tuneful sophistication while Dexter's virtuosic horn playing has the whole audience seeing just the right colors. Their good-humored connection with an audience ranging in age from six months to ninety three made everybody instantly forget the cringe factor associated with a lot of music for children. We just love them here at the MAT!"

Jim Jackson, Manitou Art Theater

YEAHBUT SHOEHEAD

A jollier bunch of shoeheads cannot be found, than the amazing band Yeahbut Shoehead. You will have to get the Yeahbut Shoehead CD to find the real meaning of the name, but you must know first that this is music strictly for children of all ages.

Anyone who refuses to be a kid will be politely squeezed from the room when they begin to play. Everyone gets to sing along, and you may even get to play with the band! (On some really weird instrument from who knows where...)

BUZZ BAND

It was the summer of 1662 and Michael Stanwood was sitting under an apple tree with his dear friend Issac Newton. Issac was out cold, having been konked by a falling apple of considerable scientific impact, and Michael waited peacefully for his companion to come to his senses, listening to the buzz of the bees, who were quite busy, feasting on fallen fruit.

Suddenly he had an epiphany, and leaping to his feet he began to dance and shout.

"It all starts with a buzz! "Michael sang, "It all comes from the buzz!" His exuberance woke Issac, who thought Michael was talking about the ringing in his ears. "But which came first, the apple or the buzz?" queried the cross-eyed Newton, and for the next few years the world was preoccupied with remembering Galileo and Pizza.

Eventually, only a few years ago, the time was right, and Stanwood put together the BUZZ BAND, an eclectic collective of artists dedicated to eliminating the buzz from flourescent lighting.

Voted by readers in Westward Magazine:

Best Psychic Healing with Musical Instruments: "Indeed, the mysterious drone of the didjeridoos, mouth harps, and other twangy contraptions does put a primeval kind of spell on an audience".

Best World-Music Group: " The performance oeuvre of this eclectic, spiritual bunch of musicians could be pigeonholed as world music, but it's dominantly crosscultural quality, which imparts an alternately mesmerizing, intense and joyful sound, takes it well beyond even that catch-all label".
